It depends what you’re using to print your artwork, and then it depends on where you’re putting it.
If you’re doing digital art with say, illustrator, where you design everything in vector and lay it out for magazines, using something like 80lb gloss or 100lb gloss would probably be your best bet.
If you’re doing digital art and working with things in photoshop, where you’d be doing stuff for print for invites, tabletops, or anything where you need sturdier stock, 8point, 10point or 12point would be your best bet.
If you’re doing business cards or anything you need to be rigid, 12pt or 14pt would be your best bet.
It all depends what you’re working with. What kind of printer are you using for it, or are you going to a digital printer to get it completed? In any case, the worst things to print digital on are textured papers (excluding linens), perforated or scored paper, or small size stocks (envelopes, anything smaller than an 8.5×11 sheet). Anything heavier than a 14point paper will also damage most machines and most likely not print well.
Email me – scott@printergateway.com if you have more questions, I run digital jobs 10 hours a day, 5 days a week on my 3 presses, so I can help you out with whatever you need.
