What is on your business card? Most business cards we see around the Cincinnati area are pretty standard with the company name, and contact information printed on the front. In general, this information is fine if the only purpose of your card is to let people know how to get in touch with you.

However, if you’re handing out your card with hopes that the other person will want to do business with you, it may be a good idea to get a bit more creative with your business card. It helps if you look at your card as a marketing tool. As a marketing tool, it’s something you use to sell your services, to promote your image, expertise and Unique Selling Propostion (USP).

You want the person who has it to understand what you can do for them and how they will benefit from contacting you. That may seem to be a lot to place on your card but remember, you have two sides to work with. Use the front of the card to make a bold statement or to put your USP.

Use the back side to list three major benefits of your company or service. List them with bullet points so they stand out. Remember, you are listing benefits of your product or service, which means three things a customer gains from selecting your product or service.

Another element you could add to the back of the card is a special offer or coupon. Leave a space blank so you can add a deadline so the prospect has an incentive to call you soon.

Some savvy marketers use the back of a business card to offer a special report a prospect can order by calling a pre-recorded phone phone number and listening to a message from the company. The special report may be something like the ProGraphics Printing report, “The most common mistake businesses make when selecting a printer and how you can avoid them.”

Many marketers will tell you that your business card is a mini-billboard and we like that analogy. Created properly, your business card can help you get a new prospect or client!
